Budapest averages around two thousand hours of sunshine a year, making it one of the sunnier cities in Europe. Good news then for tourists who don't fancy a blanket of grey in the background of their new-perfect shots of the Budapest Parliament. Indeed, generally the Budapest weather surprises visitors, who may have imagined the city with the permafrost often associated with ex-Iron Curtain states. Summers can be blissfully hot, with locals heading to islands, outdoor pools and beer gardens to cool down, whilst winters rarely dip more than a degree or two below zero. When the weather can get you down is during late spring and in autumn when rain is considerably more common. The month of November is generally worth avoiding.
