Steamy period drama shot in Budapest twilight
The trailer for the upcoming movie Bel Ami, shot in Budapest and starring Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Robert Pattinson, has just been released.
Based on the turn of the century novel of the same name by Guy de Maupassant, Bel Ami sees Twilight star Robert Pattinson play a “completely amoral” social climber who beds a string of Parisian society hostesses in his bid for power.
The trailer reveals a lavishly mounted movie, with the prerequisite lashings of rumpy pumpy.
Nevertheless, apparently the studio was nervous about releasing a movie that has heartthrob Pattinson proving to be not quite so noble to the ladies as usual.
“Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies’,” the occasional vampire said in an interview with Total Film.
“We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a shit who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it,” he said.
Bel Ami is scheduled for an autumn release.
