Hungary's leading public television station, Magyar Televizio, has it's knickers in twist with American broadcasting giants MTV, over the rights to use the three famous letters.

American MTV launched the Hungarian version of its empire this October, however Magyar Televizio use the same three initials and are non-too-pleased with this latest arrival to the airwaves. A spokesperson for the Hungarian broadcaster issued the following statement: "Magyar Televizio has been using MTV as its initials for decades and in order to protect it we have filed a lawsuit".

The near 50 year old station has registered the trademark with the Hungarian Patent Office and asserts that it has the exclusive rights to the trademark initials in Hungary.
