Chain Bridge website

Szechenyi Chain Bridge, to give it its full title, was named after Count Istvan Szechenyi, a great statesman and reformer who pushed through the bridge's construction mid-way through the 19th Century. Previous to then Buda and Pest were two separate cities, with no permanent pontoon to link them, and the Chain Bridge can rightly be accredited as a major cause behind the unified city's subsequent rise in power. Somewhat incongruously the bridge links the two very un-Hungarian sounding place names, Roosevelt Square and Adam Clark Square. The former was of course named after the US president during WWII, the latter after the chief engineer of the bridge's construction.
