Buda Castle

|
Also known as the Royal Palace, Buda Castle sits magnificently upon Buda Hill, overlooking the Danube and the Pest side of the city. Established in the 13th Century by King Bela IV to protect against Mongol invasions, the Castle was built on by successive Kings, most notably King Mattias Corvinus in the 16th Century, and destroyed by successive tides of fortune. Extensive restoration began in the 1950s so that today this resplendent Palace hosts Hungary's National Library, the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum, whilst medieval ramparts below offers visitors a pleasant stroll around the castle grounds. |
