Hungary's largest church was finally completed in 1904, taking over fifty years to build, owing to the rather large hiccup of the dome collapsing first time round. However, despite initial problems and heavy wartime damage, St. Stephen's Basilica has stood tall now for over a century, it's neo-classical facade easily one of the most striking sights in the city. The Basilica is named after St. Stephen (Szent Istvan), who was Hungary's first Christian King, and his mummified right hand is preserved in the church's reliquary - the most eerie religious relic you're likely to see in your lifetime. Be sure to climb up to the cupola for panoramic views over Budapest.
